Accessibility Through Design

Digital Doghouse has been designed and built to conform to the latest standards and guidelines for online content. The site uses a combination of strict XHTML markup together with CSS to deliver content that is accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

Access Keys

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts that give a keyboard or screen-reader user quick and easy access to all the main areas of the site.

On a PC in Windows, if you are using Firefox, pressing ‘Shift’+‘Alt’ in combination with the accesskey will take you to that page automatically. If you are using Google Chrome, press ‘Alt’ and the accesskey. In all other Windows browsers, pressing the ‘Alt’ key in combination with the access key will highlight that link on the page, you then press ‘Enter’ to select that link.

On a Mac, to use access keys in Opera, pressing ‘Shift’+‘Esc’ will showing a menu of the available access keys, press the corresponding key to go to that page. In all other Mac OS X browsers, pressing the ‘Ctrl’ key in combination with the access key will automatically send you to that specific page.

Web Browsers

Digital Doghouse is designed for newer versions of standard compliant web browsers, although every effort has been made to ensure that users with older versions of browsers are not missing out on anything! To ensure you have the best possible experience whilst using the Digital Doghouse, please check you have the latest version of your browser installed.

Plugins

Plugins are extra bits of software that allow your web browser to deliver content other than plain html. Digital Doghouse makes use of Adobe Flash Player to display rich-media content such as the eplayer. To ensure these extra features work correctly, please ensure you have the latest version of Flash player installed.

Javascript

Javascript is a lightweight programming language designed to enhance user experience on websites. Whilst no extra software is required, it is possible to turn Javascript off on your computer. A lot of the visual effects on this site rely on Javascript being enabled so if you are experiencing any errors please check that it hasn’t been turned off.
